why is that with

a buffered dac > 100k ohm pot > buffer> amp the high freq is

accentuated where as

passive dac (600:600 trafo out) >rest are the same

the freq is more evenly balanced?

i've noticed this with past setups also that transformer output has an even frequency no matter what it loads next.

buffered dac has greater bass and bigger dynamics (as i hoped) vs the passive dac when they're both loading only a 100k ohm> amp

amp is miniref 100k input impedance.

What is the input impedance of your amp? not that it matters as you have a buffer after the VC.
And what is the output impedance of your active buffer in your dac?

If these are right, then I would say your hearing the transformer ringing when subsituted for the dac's active buffer subjectivly boosting the highs.
