Introduction:
Like all our previous products, it takes us quite a while to develop it, and PDM-10s took the better part of two years. We finally came up with something that we are happy with.
Some simple spec on the PDM-10s and why we think it is important.
Fully active low pass filter (LPF):
Because a lot of product at this price level features passive LPF, and that often is detrimental to sound quality. Not because passive is bad, but because DAC chip itself were already too loaded by the passive LPF to provide good quality output.
Digitally Controlled Analog Volume Control:
As volume control on most products are done with traditional dual gang potentiometer. It is nice, but unless you are willing to cherry pick them and toss out about 80% or more, you will have a fair bit of imbalance between the left and right channel at low volume. (it is just the physics of how they are made) Our digitally controlled setup allows very precise matching of both channels, and since it is fully analog where signal pass through, it does not degrade sound quality as a fully digital volume control would.
Direct Output Headphone Amp: (135mW * 2 output power)
A lot of "power limited" audio equipments often use capacitor coupled headphone amp. It is a perfectly valid way to build a headphone amplifier, however it means you trade off power, clarity and bass to save a few bucks. Not to mention you will often experience a loud "POP" when you turn it on. Our direct output design does not have a capacitor in the output path, and thus do not suffer those drawbacks. Of course, we can use expensive boutique capacitor in an attempt to fix those issues, however even if it does clear up the sound, it still suffers from lower power and loss of bass frequencies.
SPDIF 24bit/192KHz & USB 24bit/96KHz Input:
Fully supports sample rate up to 24bit & 192KHz with SPDIF input, with USB input supports up to 24bit & 96KHz. (88.2KHz not supported on USB) No longer are you stuck with the lowly 16bit 44.1/48KHz on USB or 24bit/96KHz on SPDIF.
General Analog Tuning:
Extensive testing, audition and more testing results in a precise match of different components that gives the best result. Which is why it took us close to two years to get here.
We set out to produce a product with a very clear goal, and we believe we have achieved it. By producing something that is compact, powerful, musical and sounding absolutely crystal clear. We hope you will agree once you have a chance to try it out.
