What is the job of the resistor and what is the job of the cap in a zobel network?

We know zobel network is good.
Keeping the impedance amplifier sees fairly constant
and so avoid amp instability.
Even if recommended, we rarely see any good explaination how it all works.
My guess is resistor is too keep impedance presented to amp
from getting too low.
Maybe protect from too much current passing capacitor
when cap impedance get very small at higher frequency.
Small caps can not pass too much current without break down.
I would also welcome a good tutorial explanation of how zobel really works.

The zobel network works by progressively shorting high frequencies (at 6db/oct) away from the driver, the cap determines the frequency and the resistor acts as a load to dump the power across and to act as a "lower limit" that the impedance can drop to.
You can sometimes use a zobel on it's own to help a woofer/mid roll off (assuming that is the desired response), saves using an inductor. I have also at times used different cap values to tweek the upper response of mids/woofers.
