Hi,
I'm new to this forum, so hello everyone. I'm looking for some advice please:
We have the Yamaha Stagepas 1k MKII PA system, my daughter is a singer, we play backing tracks via bluetooth using an iphone for convenience. Usually the setup sounds great. The system is loud and is just what we need for the types of venues she plays in. One thing we have noticed is that some songs make a crackling high pitch squeak almost when the there is lots going off in the song. I assume its down to the input volume being too loud from the iphone. But it only happens on certain songs. Is there a way to make sure that the input volume is consistent on all tracks, without having to manually play with the volume and EQ nobs for each song? Not sure if this is a common thing with this kind of setup. I'm rather a newbie to PA systems so any setup advice is appreciated.
Many Thanks.
Al

Try lowering the input gain on the Yamaha. Also, have a look at the songs if they are not overly compressed and/or clipped.
You could import the songs in a DAW and have a look and perhaps normalise them.
Can you post a snippet of such a song when 'there's a lot going off'?

Al,
The problem seems to be located in the high frequencies starting at 7kHz on the left channel and 8.5kHz on the right channel.
Unfortunately, my old ears don't permit to hear most of the squealing anymore. But I can see them.
I think it comes from the music, not your daughter's mic.
Try to EQ that frequency band with something like 10dB and listen.
But first try another source, like a laptop instead of a iphone with a better quality interface instead of bluetooth.
Let us know how it turns out 🙂

Thanks for analysing, i will have a go. I think the first thing to try is to not use bluetooth, but a hard wired setup. I'll let you know how it goes.
I'd go hard-wired every time.
If you are performing in front of people - and with a StagePas I assume you must be - then these people have phones. With Bluetooth. And Wifi. All of these can and do interfere with each other.
My rule of thumb is dont use wireless anywhere it isn't necessary. It's just one more thing to go wrong.
My other rule of thumb is, if you are running anything wireless, then always have a lead handy for when it goes wrong. I use a Line6 G90 wireless for my guitar rig; the backup guitar cable is never far away!
For what its worth: the two piece band I'm in gig with two StagePas 1K for backing tracks and vocals, and a bit of backline if necessary. Hard wired. Never had a problem, either live or at rehearsal. I also have two Yamaha DXL1K - basically a dumbed-down version of your StagePas. (And a pair of subs - yeah, kind of defeats the point of the StagePas!) All hardwired, and it has been rock solid.
Cheers, and regards,
Ant
