I may have a used S1 removed from a CD-80. Lots of R1s, but I am not certain how good they are. They all get noisy eventually, which is why I remove them whenever I rebuild a player.

I thought that everyone figured that out 3 years ago. But they do get noisy. Just point your heat gun at one sometimes............heh, heh.
Some of the "A" versions do not have the R1 suffix, as that is the default marking.

I can get 1541A for around A$20. They are original Philips parts.
I also pulled out 2 TDA1541A S1 chips of a PCB - old Marantz player which insides I got from a friend of mine. And they do sound better. However, I was able to select 1 good sounding chip out of 6 1541A I bought just by listening to them and comparing with 1541A S1. The other plane A versions sounded nothing like S1 version.

They are not available at the moment (just spoke with supplier), maybe in 4 weeks time.... They've been placed on order... A$20 each + shipment.
