WTB: TAD 2002

Those drivers were always very expensive when new. You can't say the price is inflated by comparing to prices on used market. It is what it is. I have a used pair and I paid $2.5K. There used to be a selection of TAd drivers on used market but the sources somewhat dried up in recent years and prices went up . Everything got more expensive and it doesn't seem that the trend will reverse

Manufacturing a beryllium diaphragm in the unique way TAD does is a very dirty and expensive way within accuracy of 1/100 of millimeters with lots of waste which needs to be recycled and manufactured again.

Thats what you hear and what you pay for: the strongest and lightest available metall with the highest internal damping which leads to the fastest product on the market able to follow the input signal free of stress that for example a stamped beryllium diaphragm features. If you combine this knowledge with Tokyos manpower cost, building and transport prices you can imagine these diaphragms are more expensive than gold or platinum.

Now with Covid19 shipping companies and fuel surcharge prices went crazy and additional safety regulations like x-raying and examination at the (in our case import at Frankfurt airport) since 9/11 doesnt make the products cheaper and prices only know one direction. Thank god we can pick up the stuff from Stuttgart airport by ourselves with our electric vans which saves additional costs and prevents damages.

Here is what it looks like at Stuttgart airport. Its also an US military base. Please apologize my English.

This might be a good chance to ask on this thread if anyone had experience with the Tad ED 911 and 915 drivers? Both are often offered as an "alternative" to the TAD 2001 and 4001. Except for the power rating they also have close specs. Does anyone has experience with these in 2 way systems? Just like the above there are no replacement aftermarket diaphragms(like Radian) for these(same with the TAD2001) so the drivers need to be in immaculate shape(which most 2ndhands are not!)

Not directly but I replaced 2001 with 2002 years ago and I remember thinking that the change wasn't worth the effort and expense and had some thoughts that I liked 2001 more . At that time I thought of "cloning " living voice Vox Olympian since I had Et-703 and was going to substitute already commanding obscene prices ( thanks Romy ) Vitavox driver with altec 288c . The "nose " horn would be then JBL conical pipe and I had ( still have ) DuKane version of Vitavox mid horn.
