Hi guys,

I have been ready to build my first projector for a few weeks now. I have bought a ELMO HP-A305SD and have had it for a few weeks now but I cant find a good LCD panel/LCD monitor. On going through the posts I have decided that going with a LCD monitor and taking it apart is the best option that I have. The problem is that the monitors which seem to work best are just not available in the market. I dont want to buy one of Ebay since I will not be sure of the quality (dead pixels etc) and it would be a big hassel to return it. From what I know here are the three monitors that everyone talks about:

1. NEC 1545V (old model not available in any stores)
2. I-O Data A15V (could not find it in any store)
3. Samsung® SyncMaster™ 150MP (very expensive. Right now costs around $450)

I would ideally like to walk into a store like Best Buy, Office Depot, Circuit City etc and buy the monitor. Does anyone know whats my best option right now? I saw quite a few posts around Dec-Jan when people were posting places where these LCD monitors were available but have not seen any recent posts? Where are people buying these monitors now??

Dude, buy your LCD on ebay
Its like 1/2 the price of anywhere else, and I doubt that you care about a warranty for something like this. Plus, you can find one with a burnt out backlight or one with a missing stand for 1/2 the price again.

The panels that people are using now are the NEC 1545v, NEC 1550V, and NEC 1555v

The BenQ LCDs are solid. Good response times and contrast ratios.

Im considering a KDS RAD-5, but I hear they may be a pain to take apart. They are dirt cheap and are good panels though. I would like to hear if anybody has one, im really excited about this LCD

I have seen posts where some people have said that the NEC 1550V, and NEC 1555v are not that easy to take apart. Same thing about the Philips 150b where it seems like the older model is easy to take apart but not the new ones.

Thats with 2+ days left, but its dutch I guess.
It looks like you can get one off eBay for ~$150, i've seen an abundance of "broken" ones too for dirt cheap.

No the NEC 1550V is easy to take apart.

In that DIY Projector II thread, someone said that the KDS monitor had these plastic things in the way of the path of light. No biggie, all you do is bust them off 🙂

Do a search for it.
