I had fun last night at Bryan Adam’s “So Happy it Hurts” gig in Dublin’s 3Arena.
I found I knew the majority of the songs and a live Rock gig is always fun. He has a prolific back catalogue!
Great performances all round and some fun with videos and the “So Happy it Hurts” flying car!
Bryan comes over very well and really engages with the audience. He was on stage for over 2 hours and it was entertaining throughout.
Since this an audio forum, I should mention the sound! 🙂 it was very good, not short on volume, but not deafeningly loud either. The drum kit packed a hell of a punch as you would hope, and sound was clear without being fatiguing. The screaming guitar solos were clear without melting your eardrums. My inner audio nerd wanted to measure the SPL but I managed to resist!
Overall a thumbs up, no complaints, and well worth the price of admission.
What was your last gig experience?
Jeff.

Last gig was Goblini, but very looking forward to this Saturday for Rammstein 😊 10T of fuel spent on effects, stage is 36m high, 60m wide, will be spectacle of a concert with their performanse on stage. As for sound quality, they are bringing their own as well, which i doubt will be of poor quality 🙂
I hadn’t heard of him, but he seems to be an exceptionally talented performer from what I’ve just read and heard.Arturo Sandoval
I hope you enjoyed it!
I have enjoyed a few jazz performances over the years. I think I might make a bit of an effort to see and hear more of these.
Buddy Guy at the Chicago Blues Festival yesterday. A living legend, and he still has incredible energy. Plus his playing is still adventurous, unafraid of bringing wildness into the music.
Millennium Park was filled to capacity. We stood in line nearly two hours to get in. It felt special to be there.
The show did feel just a bit bittersweet too, maybe a hometown farewell of sorts. Mr. Guy was joined onstage by some other blues stars: singer Shemekia Copeland, harmonica player Billy Branch, guitarists Wayne Baker Brooks, Ronnie Baker Brooks, and Greg Guy (Buddy's son).
We don't get out to music all that often, but Buddy Guy was actually the second show that my wife and I went to yesterday. Earlier in the afternoon, we went to an avant garde double bass duo performance by Luke Stewart and Joshua Abrams at Experimental Sound Studio. I'm not the biggest avant garde listener but I'm glad I went and got some creative inspiration from brilliant people with deep dedication to their art.
Within the next few weeks we plan to see Protomartyr here in Chicago, and then the Flaming Lips in Grand Rapids.
I guess maybe we have been getting out to music more often lately...

It sounds like you are having fun at the gigs. I don’t go to many gigs, but when I do I enjoy it!
I hope you enjoy the remainder of the gigs you have lined up, and I look forward to hearing about them here 🙂
Have fun!

Last night I went to Dalhalla (a huge outdoor venue located in an abandoned limestone quarry) and saw the (in)famous black metal band Watain.
The music was definitely not everyone's cup of tea but it was quite a show:

The Boss and I went to the 50th anniversary tribute show of Mike Oldfields "Tubular Bells' and had a great night. Sound wasn't too bad and it was a bit of nostalgic fun. Average audience age probably mid 70's
Dweezil Zappa
once he got past the requisite crowd pleaser's, "Don't Eat The Yellow Snow", etc. the band really stretched out and played some of Papa Zappa's fine instrumentals

My wife and I were at the Vienna State Opera early October taking in Mozart’s Don Giovanni. It was a great performance. I am alway amazed at how people can project voices even when in awkward positions.
It was also a good chance to re-calibrate my ears to live music and dynamics so I can better appreciate how far my system is from reality.

We were off to see "The Hu" on Monday. Not the old british rockers, the Mongolian Metal band! Very cool mix of traditional instruments, amped up to 11, and rockin' out!
Fuling, that Dalhalla pit looks very cool, but could be very echo'y, how's it sound?

I was watching a favorite blues band on Halloween night (Rush Cleveland Trio) and they asked me to sit in on guitar for a set. Fun times!
Madame Butterfly at LA Opera. One of my favorite operas, never fails to move. Everything was great - singing, music, acting, staging, decorations. But I am forever spoiled by Frederic Mitterand's movie with incomparable Ying Huang...
There was an interesting innovation - an operator with telecamera projecting black and white image of action on the screen above the scene. It was like simultaneously watching live performance and exquisitely shot movie showing close facial expressions of the singers in the key scenes. Very impressive.

Belle and Sebastian; they always give a good show, even though this time Stuart Murdoch (singer) had a terrible cold and sounded very ill when talking.
I have tickets for a number of shows in the next six months though; New Order; The The; Paul Kelly, and Rob and Mark Snarski (the latter probably a bit too Australian for the non-Aussies to know). Gotta make the most of my recent retirement!

Just got tickets for Kristen Hirsch in March next year. I'm going to be busy in the first three months of 2025.
