Back to the Universe! 😎

ESA's Solar Orbiter has captured the Sun over a 20-day period in the attached sequence released today.

The spacecraft takes ultraviolet images of the Sun, but they have been enhanced so human eyes can see them.

I've found this photograph taken by the Italian Space agency's LICIAcube which followed DART on its mission to collide with asteroid Dimorphos.

The large, bright object is asteroid Didymos and above it can be seen the eruption of dust from its small moonlet Dimorphos following the collision.

"Is there any credence to the notion ?"

I would like to understand you better... Could you please break the above sentence down into parts, describe each of them closely and also describe the semantics and idea behind them. To begin with, what previous statement did it addressing - more specifically? What do you think "to the moon and back" ment? What is the "notion" as you understand it?

I am off to see The Moon myself next Friday!

Very excited about this, especially since it is a another Free Exhibition at the Albert Hall which London does so well:

There was a person on BBC Radio 5 Live yesterday saying how proud she was to touch the Lunar Excursion Module in the Science Museum, as something which had been to The Moon. What an ill-informed person! They never came back! It is a replica, albeit an impressive one, and about half as big as a Red London No. 52 Double Decker Bus, which conveniently runs from Victoria Staion to Kensington Gore.

Of course our favourite image is "Earthrise" taken by Apollo 8 at Christmas 1968.

I shall look out for any evidence of Galu on the moon. More likely to find footprints of TinTin and Snowy (fr. Milou) there, IMO. 😎

I hope to have time to add the nearby V&A to our visit. Bit of Art.

The James Webb Space Telescope has given us a Massive Paradigm Shift

Phrases like that can be found on the interweb.

For example:

"James Webb telescope is a 'paradigm shift' for scientists hunting Earth-like alien worlds."
"Webb is breaking the Big Bang paradigm."
"NASA's James Webb Space Telescope represents not only a scientific paradigm shift but a cultural one."
"Scientists say that James Webb can really bring a paradigm shift to science and our understanding of the Universe."

A more down-to-earth view is that of astronomer Örs Hunor Detre:

"JWST will answer many big questions of science and at the same time, it will raise even more questions. This is how science works. Imagine that our knowledge is a sphere, which becomes larger and larger as scientists learn more and more. As our sphere of knowledge is growing, its surface to the unknown is growing with it. We will have more and more questions that only the next instrument will be able to answer. The future will tell."

I'm with Örs here... increased resolution, better see through of gas and spectral analysis. Same improved measurement technology as yesterdecade. So no new paradigm. Just solid progress. Da aint bad. S7, you fell for the tech-news click-bait long reef.... sorry.

Previously we discussed the Paradigm shift that Mr. Einstein and many others brought to the World of Space and Time and the Quantum...

Thus it goes on. And, disappointingly few people understood the nature of Science and Mathematics in changing the Modern World.

Quite honestly, birds like Ravens are generally better at Mathematics than Humans:

I have observed these creatures myself. They are BRIGHT!

Similarly, Prof Chris Whitty and Prof. Van Tam did the statistical analysis about germs:

I listen to the Scientists. And so should you. I am still alive, so it works for me.

Best Regards from Steve in Portsmouth UK. (Now up to 4 Covid jabs, plus 'Flu Jab.)
