If the box is shallow it could be this design. Note the tuning.. it's more a kick bin than a sub.
The center cavity is something between a 1/4 wavelength resonator and a short horn. It improves the sensitivity at the upper bass or lower midrange.
However, this is a potential help (maybe? or a lesser offset aimed at the next resonance) to get rid of the second resonance in the front side pipe and prevent an annoying result (like some of the paraflex models overexcite multiple pipe resonances in that area )?
