I'm using my notebook + USB out + CM6631A USB to SPDIF converter + DAC AK4396 (direct out modded) + preamp

I am still very satisfied with sound. The best improvement was achieved by direct out mod of AK4396 described in this forum.

There are several new DAC's with never Chips available now.
I'm looking at this one
