Hi,
I am just starting out with astrophotography.
Webcam just arrived for the guidescope.
I connected via USB and it went searching for driver.
Now installed and it tells me it is working properly.
Here's the two screens confirming connection and operation.
How do I turn the webcam on?

You use your favorite video capture software to get input from the device. DScaler, PCcam (often bundled with webcams) etc.
You might want to search for one of the astronomy oriented freewares that support generic webcams. As a test there must be something there already that uses your built in camera, usually when you start it it can switch to any installed device. Sorry, that assumes a modern laptop.

Andrew sorry if I posted this before but these folks in the UK have a lot of links for webcam astronomy. QCUIAG WEBSITE www.qcuiag.org.uk

May be from the power switch? Placing it in the on position? :-D
(A bit of humor only)

Thanks for that if I have not already.

It may BE on, and the NSA and KGB are watching you.
You need some program. I see you are on Windows, but don't recognize which flavor. MS kept changing the simple camera app. And I don't have a web-cam on this machine so no use looking. I have XP and Win7 machines with web-cams but not handy. Tell what you got and someone may know where to poke to get your face on screen.
I know it is "easy" once you find it. I have a "proctoscope" USB-camera. I put it to my XP netbook and then (after it crashed) I found a program to view the camera, and the inside of my lawnmower engine. (Valves moved, piston didn't.)

I'm on Win7 64bit
The usb camera installed itself after it went searching for the driver.
I don't know where to look for the start up short cut, or maybe there is none yet and I need to create that?

First try looking in
c:\Program Files and c:\Windows
See if you can see any folder that has the name of the camera or looks a likely suspect. If so then open the folder and see if there is a .exe file for the camera.
Have you also tried just typing camera into the search box and seeing if anything is recognised ?

My Win 10 came with simply "Camera" (black taped over now of course 😉)
Andrew,
The dialogs you have shown only indicate that a camera is present and a suitable driver was installed to make it functional. That camera is now available to any software installed in your machine capable of using it.
Do you have Skype installed on your computer? From the menu bar select Tools, Options. Skype will launch a dialog which includes "Video settings". Once you click on it the camera will be activated and the image displayed on the screen.

I don't have skype, but I could download it to test the camera.
Is there other video software that might already be on the system?

I am looking at my laptop with Windows 7 64 bits and it has a Toshiba provided program for capturing images. I am not aware of any software included in Windows 7 for that purpose.
Andrew,
I just tested this software and it seems to work fine, without even installing it in Windows. Follow the link below, save the oasis.exe executable to any folder you like and run it.
Downloads - Oasis Scientific Inc.

As soon as I clicked on the .exe in the link, a video pic appeared on my PC.
The camera can be focused !
Thanks.
