I am trying to find a source for some control shafts and bushings.
I want to mount a pot near the back of a chassis and have a long shaft extend through from the face plate. i see this done in preamps all the time but where do you buy the shafts and the bushings that mount to the front panel???

Alternatively, you can purchase plastic "flanged sleeve bearings" from McMaster-Carr. Drill a 5/16 whole in the face plate, put a sleeve in, and then your 1/4" shaft in the bearing. Positioning the flange between the face plate and the shaft knob prevents the sleeve from sliding out of the face plate hole.

Well i suppose in true DIY fashion, i could diassemble some pots and just use the chassis of the pot as a front bushing. hadnt thought of that. Its ok, i managed to find some on eBay. but i was hoping to find a commerical source for them.

I used 1/4" ground stainless and shaft couplers from McMaster Carr, for bearings, I used "Spyralign" Acetal Press Bearings from Small Parts Inc. They are made for sheet metal applications. and are available from 1/8" to 1/2" I.D.

Hardware stores in these parts always have those little plastic boxes above the bins that hold all the fasteners. All sorts of goofy stuff in them... clevis pins, fancy machine washers, cotter keys in every imaginable material, nylon screws, etc.
Anyway, there should be a little box of oil-lite bushings with all sorts of ID's and OD's... one of my favorites spots, also nylon bushings, and fancy allen heads. Not cheap but cheaper than McMaster for certain.
Check your local store.
Why delay gratification?

I have am extra set or two of shaft extenders. They have double u-joints, and slide to fit to length.
The collars fit 1/4" shafts, have double set screws. They can be cut down if shorter is needed, but are 6" long and extend to 9".
The 3/8 x 1/4 bushings should be available at any True Value hardware store. But I have some of those also.
