WTB VRDN PSU Boards for Wayne’s preamp

Wanted to buy
I have 4 of these for sale - unpopulated, 4 layer, revA may 2020.

The community was good enough here to make the gerbers available, so I'm aiming to sell these at cost. They were 4 each, and more than that again in customs and shipping.

Would 10e each be fair? Tracked post would be about 9e anywhere in the world for up to 3 of them.

Folks:

I hosted a VRDN group buy just over two years ago (see https://www.diyaudio.com/community/...lar-ps-for-line-level-11-20v-circuits.362656/). It was a very satisfying experience -- I think I bought 150 pcbs, kept a few, gave some away and the 130 reserved for sale sold out in about 3 days. The boards were sold at just over cost and the profit was donated to diyAudio. My local post office is a 12 minute walk from my house and the daily stroll there was a nice distraction, especially so in the midst of the COVID pandemic. Sparing a pair for Dneu2001 isn't a problem, but I don't have a big stockpile.

So here's my suggestion: there appears to be renewed demand for VRDN boards (no surprise; Mark Johnson did his usual stellar job). How about one of you nice folks post a note assessing interest in the pcbs and host your own group buy? One of the attachments in Mark's first post in his VRDN thread includes the gerber files needed to manufacture the boards (see https://www.diyaudio.com/community/...l-ckts-11v-to-20v-1-5a-with-de-noiser.355883/). The risk is low. Hosting a group buy is easy and very satisfying -- you can make a contribution to this fine website and can make a lot of people very happy.

Regards,
Scott

Hi Guys I can do the group buy provided no one else is coming forward. For me I have drive 15 min to the post office to mail and hence it may not be fast but I can gather multiple packages then mail it. I also will charge 1 $ per board to donate to DIY Audio . I had done this earlier but I can start the GB thread and close it in a week as I have to travel outside US for a month. So i would like to order 20-30 boards but limit it so as to give me time to ship it out. It will be only for US members
Let me know what every one thinks and show your interest
thanks

Thanks, Scott. Good to hear the risk is low. My worry would be that 100 boards would be trashed due to my mistakes! But just last night I tested Mark's zip file at JLCPCB and (no surprise) it worked flawlessly. My only customization was to select blue boards so that they would more closely match the BA boards. If that's the process, then it truly is easy. (Flingers crossed, just in case.)

I just posted a note in the VRDN thread and the BA 2018 thread as well which will point folks here. Let's see how it goes.

Kannan, we'll be in touch!

Phil, I don't see why not. For international shipping from the US the costs will likely be higher and the timeline longer. But in spite of how awful the US postal service has become, they still come in pretty inexpensive for items under 1 pound (in weight).

Folks:

You might want to consider two notions concerning shipping boards from the US to the EU:

Shipping costs to the EU will be relatively high. Crazy high under the circumstances if all you're selling is a handful of boards. It may make more sense for someone in Europe to order directly from a pcb fab house. Just as bhjazz is considering, purchase 50 or 100 boards and sell locally to the European community. The cost per board will be low, mailing expenses far more reasonable (if the fab house is in China, then shipping is (a) China to EU, not (b) China to US and then US to EU) and everyone will win.
Alternatively, ship a bunch of boards from the US to someone in Europe who will distribute in the EU. That might mean buying 150 or 200 boards and shipping half abroad. The cost per board will be lower than if you just buy 100. The US Post Office International Priority Mail boxes have set prices -- weight isn't factored into the rate -- so figure out how many will fit in a particular box and sell up to that number. Total delivery costs will be higher than the first option but still manageable.

Also, I've only used jlcpcb for my pcb fabrication, so I don't know if other fab houses operate the same way, but you can save a decent amount of money if you change from the default shipping option to something else. It may cost an extra few days in transit time, but the savings may be worth it.

Regards,
Scott
