• WARNING: Tube/Valve amplifiers use potentially LETHAL HIGH VOLTAGES.

Tube Amp+MiniDSP+OpenBaffle

What type of miniDSP?
Is it analog in, analog out, 4 channel?
Do you have a possibiliyty to do room measurements and/or room correction?
Does it come with Dirac? Are you familiar with say REW? Have a measurement mike?

You don't need to - you can do all xover adjustments by ear, but measurments make it so much easier and accurate.

I was thinking about this model- minidsp 2x4HD.

By placing 2x4HD between source/preamp and a stereo amplifier, one can eq the speaker as such (L/R individually). It can help to smoothen spl response and room modes. Then two output channels should be muted in the control software.

But when using two power amplifiers (eg. heavy classD for woofers), one can equalize L/R woofer and tweeter individually, set crossover frequency and type, adjust gains and adjust delay for the upper driver.

In both cases you should invest in a measurement mic, eg. Minidsp UMIK-1. RoomEQWizard is very good freeware measurement software, with semiautomatic eq for minidsp 2x4HD.

2x4HD is a very versatile and rather easy to learn gadget! Well worh the price anyway! It has only RCA output, but voltage is often high enough for power amps.

You can use any amp that has enough power for the volumes you want to reach. The Quad will work fine as long as you don’t use too much low bass eq causing it to run out of power and clip. A class D amp is a good choice here as they are cheaper per watt and low bass doesn’t require the ultra high fidelity of the upper range.
