I just tried my active crossover out that I purchased, and using homemade cables, I am running unbalanced lines, XLR one end, and RCA on the other.
When I connect everything, there is a hum in my system from the crossover, but the preamp also contributed, as when I disconnected the inputs into the XO, some of the hum went away, but not all. Is there a possible mismatch in my system or is there a bigger issue?
Denon Cd deck > Bottlehead Quickie Preamp > Ashly XR2000 crossover > Denon POA 2400 amp > Speakers.
Anyone have any theories? I have lifted the ground from the XO, but it still hums.
