Have a question...has anybody experimented with a vertical stacking of magnetic components? I'm running out of room on the chassis so I want to put a grounded ( Earthed) metal plate to isolate the AC flux off the chokes.....or am I opening a can of magnetized worms?

I tend to build all my amps vertically now. I find it easier. I use three stacks: PT + L + C : turrwt board, final filtering etc (+OPTs in poweramps) : only tubes out the top.
Layout follows the same considerations, and I mock up first and test for hum with it on before making final PT, OPT, PS-L positioning decisions.
PS: a stereo poweramp is about the same size as a desktop PC. With tubes sticking out the top.

Long disassembled I'm sorry, but I still have all the component parts. It put out too much heat to use in the summer, and I've since moved to a smaller house where I don't need the power. It was as ugly as hell.Steven-H said:PICS![]()
All the weight was from the 4 10kg chokes I used in the LCLC filament supplies.
