As these are obsolete are there any other better parts either from Toshiba or Fairchild devices to use as drivers in pass amps or preamps.
I currently use these and they sound quite nice in an F5. I know - probably knock offs/fakes/etc but for $4.35 you have nothing to lose really. I am running them 4 pairs at 400mA bias current ea and the amp works well.

I have already opened a thread on this subject a few months ago.
Fairchild parts are not really substitutes but alternate solution.
Anyway, I have found genuine parts on this forum and it is matched as a bonus:

I also still have a couple of sets of genuine matched devices up for sale (see link in my signature for updated information).

Original pass transistors in my Borbely all fet regulators are J313/K2013. They are out of production, and someone suggested IRF510/9510 as substitute which I have been using for a long time. Would replacing them with Fairchild FQP 3N30 and 3P20 be improvement?
in regulator - no
Why? Farchild MOSfets have higher transconductance( 1.75 compared to IRF 510 1.1). I think that higher value gives regulator lower output impedance.
I am not sure. But, there is a reason why Borbely used to use Toshiba rare and expensive Mosfets in his voltage regulators instead of IRF types.will you hear it?
I am not happy to desolder my IRF Mosfets and test regulators with FQP which are considered as a Toshiba substitute.
Not rare as today, but more expensive and less available at major electronic parts distributors. They certainly weren't rare or expensive back when Erno was active.
even back then , it was pure Demonstration of Force , from Papa Borbely side
it's pure waste , even then , to use 2SK/2SJ in regulator , with plenty of easily available and dirt cheap alternatives
however , it certainly helped with customers believing in FiFi Voodoo ......
remember that E. Borbely , judging by his constructions , is and always was Engineer with big E , so real one ...... that's why I understand his regs as sort of tongue in cheek ......
btw. generally speaking - changing parts in active reg can be tricky business , depending of phase behavior of original circuit .
so , that's no Voodoo , just pure engineering ......
