I am a newbie here, did a search but it didn't return any results, therefore posting here sorry if I am in a wrong thread.
I have original Sony mdr v 700 headphones. The wire/cable that goes through the headband is damaged and I want to replace it.
The problem is that it is very thin. Have no gauge but aproximately it is 1 mm in diameter.
The cable itself is with 2 cores in one cladding. I believe cable of type core + shield will do the job.
Could you please advise me where to get this type of cable/wires. I am situated in Dublin, Ireland. Or atleast recommend manufacturers.

Try some cable from Maplins like this, but split it and only use one run, core and shield

Van Damme Shotgun Twin Audio Interconnect 2 x 2.5mm Speaker Cable : Speaker Cable : Maplin Electronics
they also do some Van Damme pro grade classic xke patch cable ofc silver plated try stripping the cores out of that.
TBH on that short length any audio grade wire will probably be ok, and it does not need to be shielded either.
If you have problems PM me and I'll send you a bit, I am sure I have some old Micro cable in the spares box.

If a simple coaxial will work (i.e. center conductor and screen), I'd suggest Mogami W2368. It's just barely 2mm in diameter and is very flexible.

Thank you for the suggestions. I've been to Maplins and bought this one:

And it's still too thick. The thing is that construction of original cable was: core, then another conductor twisted around core and covered in some dielectric very much similar to laque and all that was covered in cladding. The dielectric layer melts easily while soldering.
This morning I've spent researching. I was looking through Maplins stock and Mogami website. And I've come across this Mogami W2943 form here:

And Mogami 2444 Ultra Mini from here:
MOGAMI Intern/Konsolenkabel ? Meterware ? 2444 Ultra Mini
I'll try to obtain some of those and see if I can squeeze them through all the narrow places.

In every case construction was the same as I described above: 2 conductors, one twisted around another and covered in laque type dielectric.
So the question is: if this type of cable is so widely used in headphone manufacturing, why is it so hard to obtain one?

The cable you mention is more than likely only avaliable to trade in mega big rolls.
Don't worry about all the shielding ect it is only speaker cable you need after all, (and a very short length too) try stripping off the covering and shielding from some of maplins van damme pro grade OFC cable you only need the two runs and twist them together. You may need to enlarge any holes it goes thro but as it is all inside the head band no worries how it looks.It's colour coded too so no way to get your conections out of phase.

That will be a lot easier to solder too.
BTW the Maplins Silver Solder is rubbish it has a very high melting point, use the stuff from "Missing Link" if you only need a small amount or go to Warton Metals if you need to buy it by the 1kg or 1/2 kg... something like thier 62s grade 22 or 24swg (which is the about the same stuff as Missing Link) unles you can afford the WBT rip off stuff.
