Don't know what the story behind this amp/"whatever it is" is but... well just have a look

using audio to modulate a tesla coil - kinda cool actually. Here is a video of two coils playing different parts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1O2jcfOylU&NR=1
the idea is called an Ionophone. now i want to build one........... basically you have an oscillator/exciter for the tesla coil that is amplitude modulated. such a "speaker" has the advantage of having no moving parts
a flame is composed of ionized gases. you can use high voltage to modulate a candle flame, but the carbon buildup is a problem. scientific american did a diy project back in the 70's about a plasma cutting torch with a sidebar about modulating the device with audio.

And the concensus of knowledge gained, loosely translated: "Look Out You'se Kids, Don' Put Yer Lips Ohne It!"
What da helll is zat?
I dunno what da helll dat is!
Well... What da helll is it?
I know what da helll dat is!!!! ...What da helll is it?

the thing wasn't exactly practical, cobsidering it took 2 or 3 car batteries in parallel and about 5 lbs of solid carbon and a tank of helium to build.....
not to mention the 00ga wire to hook it up.......
