Hello !
I've bought second hand an SL-PG4 CD player.
Sound is very good but the tray open and close very slowly and sometime get stuck mid position.
So I thought the device was suffering from old and stiff grease. (the tray is geared and there is no belt in this player).
I get the service manual at Hifiengine.com and opened the player.
I removed all the old green grease I could (there is a gear which should be replaced if removed, so I limited myself to the parts that are reusable ....) then put some Teflon grease usable on plastic and though I would be good to go.
This did not solve the problem, so I am eager to hear what you have to say on this fine piece of kit !
Many thanks in advance for your help !

No response yet, so I'll give the thread a nudge. I don't claim to be an expert in CD repair, just a tinkerer!
Do a thorough check for broken gear teeth, clogged up teeth, misaligned gear wheels and loose mountings.
Gears could be out of sync and motor could be defective or simply in need of lubrication.
The cause is usually mechanical, but the voltage to the motor might not be up to scratch.
