Hello everyone,
I have a pair of 30 year old technics SB-CS65 speakers, and only the subwoofers are working properly. The mid and high range are almost gone.
I tried both the 4 inch mid range driver and the 3 inch tweeter with a direct connection to the amp, at a low volume, and the sound is very low, similar to when they were connected to the crossover.
The speakers are rated 60w / 8 ohm.
The woofer shows 7ohm, the mid range shows 4 ohm and I have no idea about the tweeter impedance.
I need help deciding on what kind of not-too-expensive 4 ohm 4 inch mid range I should get, and also about 3 inch the tweeter impedance and power rating, as they seem to be connected in paralell to the crossover high frequency side.
Thank you for all the advice you might want to give.
Daniel

Assuming you got the model right, there is no midrange, there are only tweeter and piezotweeter, which is useless from the start. About any 4 ohm dome tweeter will be adequate.
Are you saying the midranges and tweeters on BOTH speakers are bad? Everything went out simultaneously? How's that possible? Were they grossly over powered? Normally you should be able to swap things around to isolate the bad component.
I don't think those speakers are worth replacing most of the drivers on. Even if you did, it probably would not sound good if using off the shelf drivers and not those intended for the speakers. Probably be better to buy a different pair of speakers.

Looks like a 3 way to me even though it has a tweeterish mid.

EDIT:
This link says dome tweeter while rabbitz's says piezo: https://www.hifiengine.com/manual_library/technics/sb-cs65.shtml
Hope I've got that right now!

I've downloaded the User Manual which says:
3 way 3 speaker system.
Speakers: Woofer: 18 cm. cone type.
Midrange: 2,5 cm. dome type.
Tweeter: dome type

I have no idea about the tweeter impedance.
That verifies it is a piezo as they don't show resistance.
they [mid and tweere] seem to be connected in paralell to the crossover high frequency side.
The piezo tweeter will just be 'piggybacking' on the mid.
No additional filter components are required for the piezo as it does its own high pass filtering, being capacitive in nature.
the mid range shows 4 ohm
The nominal impedance may be a bit higher than your DC resistance reading.
I would leave the piezo tweeter as is (it's only a high frequency 'helper') and replace the 25 mm dome unit with a 25 mm dome tweeter capable of crossing over at 2,500 Hz (as per the speaker specifications).
If you can get Monacor products in Portugal, here is a possible candidate:
https://www.monacor.com/products/pa...y-and-speaker-building/hi-fi-tweeters/dt-140/
It costs in the region of £24 on Amazon UK.
Also: https://www.monacor.com/products/pa...nd-speaker-building/hi-fi-tweeters/dtm-104-4/
Around £21 on Amazon UK.

To be clear, the "mid range driver" is actually a 25 mm dome tweeter.
The piezo is only there to give a helping hand at the highest (possibly inaudible to you) frequencies.
@VoxCelestial was correct in his estimation in the first reply to your post. I should have listened!

Unless the speakers have sentimental value I would replace them so many good speakers available today. Don't waste your time on those get new speakers you will be glad you did and you will end up asking yourself what took me so long. What is your budget if you were to buy new speakers?Hello everyone,

Thank you for all the inputs and the manuals and technical information. The mid-range in fact has no cone, so it is indeed a dome tweeter.
I will try to connect them to another amp and check how they behave.
And probably the repair, if necessary, won't be worth it, as also mentioned.
Thank you.
