TDA2052 Mute Pin

I really dislike the mute pins that require a certain voltage like this one on the TDA2052. My question is what happens if I just connect the mute pin to ground. Does the voltage need to be exactly +5 over -Vs or can it be more than that so I can just ground it. My power supply is -/+ 12V so if I connected it to ground it would be +12 over -Vs. Would this work?

I would add ~20kR resistor between Vee and mute/stby.
If switched to ground it will be on stand by. that 10uF cap is just for smooth switching...
The mute function may handle direct Vee but in most cases it will remain silent forever 😛
