Hi,
I'm looking for an easily available (EG via www.rswww.com or maplins 😉) replacement for the 1N5060 diode. I saw a website saying it had been replaced by the 1N5062(?) but I can't find that either!
Even some stats on it might be useful! Anyone?
Thanks!
Gaz

Hi Rarkov, done a bit of a search, and it seems to be a soft avalanche rectifier...( try google).
What is the application, it would help for giving equivalents, the alternate part no. doesn't seem to come up!

I think he said before he was building Slone's "OPTI-MOS DESIGN". There's a full schematic half way down the page.
Rarkov, why don't you ask Mr. Slone? I was building an amp from one of his books and he was really helpful. He once answered an email in less than 2 hours! Here is a link to his website:

The "CONTACT" page has an email address you can use to send him mail.
Good luck...

Hi,
You're right about the design (I think). I'm building it from the Audiophile's Source book (Page 173) so it isn't dubbed with a name.
I wrote to Mr Slone about replacements for other parts and he was really helpful. The only thing was when I wrote back about another point, he didn't reply so I assumed that he was busy...
I also didn't think it would be a problem to get hold of them. These diodes are paralleled with 0.5Ohm 5W resistors on the outputs.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Whilst random surfing, I found out that the 1N5060 is not discontinued, just packaged differently, but by the sound of it, I would imagine any other medium power soft recovery rectifier will work, at least until you can track down the real ones.

hello,
1N5060 : controlled avalanche diode , 400V, 2A
A direct suitable substitute would be BYW95C.

That's great. I found the BYW95C on rswww.com and ordered it. It was 34p which was great...and in SOD64 pacakging...which is basically a bead...so not too far off axial aswell!
Thanks for all your help!!!

Hi Gaz,
just seen your thread for a 1n5060 ,My dad has a bisiness in the uk he has a similar diode in the same range 1n5059.
