This is my first build. I just bought a Crunch PZX subwoofer and Im putting it in a sealed box. The sub has a foam ring on the outer ring, so should i attach the sub in the box from the inside with the foam against the wood? Or just make the hole and "drop" the sub in then put the screws in?
Anyway you want, if the attachment is strong enough (thickness of the wood baffle). Outside placement will have a little more air or extra net volume of the thickness of the baffle (volume = Pi * radius^2 * length) for critical condition when lower Q is needed. Besides that is mechanical & screws only.🙂
Or just make the hole and "drop" the sub in then put the screws in?
This is what folks do, though of course there needs to be a gasket to seal it up tight.

thanks for the help, i think im gonna use the foam as the air tight seal since the sub appears to be designed that way
Certainly nothing wrong doing it this way, but FWIW, the gasket is there primarily to keep the surround glued in place. Mounting it from the rear OTOH allows one to easily create an airtight box, so by far the preferred way to do it.

just for clarification, when you say mounting it from the rear, do you mean dropping the sub through the hole in the enclosure?
