Hi all, my first post.
I've been working away from home a bit and now it's turned winter I come back to a cold and slightly damp house every Friday night. Last Friday I turned my Studer D730 on and got a "control-out" signal on the panel. It sits above a big MF amp so I left that powered up all night and tried the Studer in the morning. Fired up fine.
I suspect that the Caps are on the way out so its time to give the old girl some TLC. So, any recommendations as to what Caps to use or should I just try to source originals. I don't want to alter the sound signature of it, neither do I want to break the bank, the unit was a lucky find at a TV studio auction, I'm not generally the sort of person who can afford such high end equipment. I do however have the skills to do the job myself.
Cheers,
Mike

I wasn't able to find the message you read in the service manual but this could be for a number of reasons, including low temperature/high humidity environment. See if you can replicate the error under different circumstances before attempting any repair or investing it it.
With my Studer and Revox equipment, I have had best experience with Nichicon capacitors which are also good match for professional audio (forget about Panasonic FC and the likes) because they offer best characteristics and longest service life without deterioration of specs. More specifically, I would recommend Nichicon KZ and FG for signal circuits, ES for signal paths, and KL elsewhere.

Thanks Willi, Think I will leave well alone until it becomes a problem. The house is Victorian and the atmosphere gets damp in winter unless the heating is on for a while. The problem hasn't come back since. Thanks for the tip on capacitors though.
