Need a speaker for my DIY SE tube amps. 5 to 15W. Largish room (20' x 20') but I sit close to speakers. Thinking of DTQWT for its efficiency. Other suggestions?
What SPL is required? And what load properties are best for your tube amps? The Troels Gravesen design doesn't seem the easiest of loads and could require some additional crossover hardware to run well on a transformer output amp.
I don't blast things that loud, 70-80db is normal listening but maybe the occasional 90 or so when I want to rock out or show off the system. (We are all guilty of the latter I think).

Below is the impedance curve for the DTQWT. Is this a tough load for a SET?

Let me reverse the question. What is the output impedance of your SET? And does the transformer have a 4Ω tap?
I'd have to look at my spice model and make some measurements but I am guestimating about 2-3 ohms. No 4ohm tap.
Edit: Correcting last post, amp is not a SET but a Pentode SE with a little feedback. So it may be on the lower end of that 2-3 ohm estimate.
Edit2: LTSpice says Zout ~ 2 ohms

I won’t try to talk you out of the DTQWT. It is an open system, probably relying on an amp that controls it. Furthermore, I can’t predict what the output impedance does with the transfer function of the complete system, compared to a solid state amp with low output impedance. Some would say a closed box and a linearized impedance would be a better fit.
Thank you. I am not set on the DTQWT, actually I would prefer a less costly option. I plan on doing some listening with my sound meter to see how much SPL I really need. Perhaps I don't need a 95db system after all.
Just a bump to this thread. I think the DTQWT IF made with 2x10 or 2x12 will have around 8ohm but the costs go up. what then would be a good recommendation for a SET amp that pushes out 8-15wpc?
