I've been using a motley assortment of stuff for my band - some antique Klipsch KSP250 tops, some sealed 18" subs, various amps, and an old beer spattered Samson mixer. I'm probably going to upgrade the Klipsch with some Crites stuff and add a few odds and ends - an eq for the monitors, maybe a new mixer. I've been following the evolution of the Econowave over on AudioKarma and thinking one day when we're playing the "big gigs" I might want to build some better, badder stuff, especially speakers. I've thought it would be cool to build a top with both a 1" and 2" compression driver horn and a 10 or 12" speaker into a short horn along with a tapped horn sub for the mains. Anybody with any thoughts on any advances in PA system approaches I might want to know about, especially any well designed passive crossovers to put between a 1" and 2" compression driver? Thanks for tolerating my rambling posts.
Big Horns & Other Gear
Medium and Large format horns are best suited to 'house' systems (permanent installations), unless your crew are masochists.
For a horn system the lowest might be M4 compression driver from Community Light and Sound to cover the second decade (200-2000 Hz).
