spraypaint on driver magnet?

I'd like to use spraypaint to dress up the backside of some woofers for open baffle use. I just want to cover the magnets. They are the standard milled/cast steel magnet cup with a ferrite donut.

Any performance issues to worry about?

Any recommendations for primers or paint?

Thanks.

1) tape/cover any frame windows, you don't want paint on the cones, at all.

2) wipe what you'll paint with clean kerosene or a similar solvent, avoid gasoline/paint thinner/lighter fluid, etc. because they are both volatile and very flammable; kerosene is relatively safe and an excellent degreaser.
Wipe it dry and let it rest a couple hours so any solvent residue has a chance to evaporate.

Then paint with *good* aerosol paint, meant for metals and which is rust preventive.

Rustoleum in general has excellent paints; if you want speakers not to be very noticeable, choose satin black finish (neither bright nor flat but somewhere in between) , or check Hammerite for special effects, textured metallic .

Don't sand it! And let it dry at least 24h with good ventilation, the most glues and materials of a speaker (surround/cone/voice coil/spider) don't like solvents at all. JMFahey said everything else already.
