Spectrum Analyzer

I'm looking for a schematic or kit to build a spectrum analyzer. I really like the velleman k4300 kit pictured here, but that kit has been discontinued. I have been unable to find any stores with residual kits laying around. The analyzer will be mainly for aesthetics. If I can't find a schematic, I've considered buying a cheap led spectrum analyzer/eq on ebay, and removing the analyzer circuit.

Hi,
I´m want to build a SA too. The circuit is based on LM 3915 from National Semiconductor. You can use Led or Led bar with 10 segments, or, in my case a VFD from Futaba, but if you are intented to use VFD you must have to multiplexing. The Led schematic is more easy and multiplexing is not an obligation using 1 LM 3915 per 10 leds. The frequencies for each bar i´ll use an op amp such as TL 084 as frequency filters.

regards,
Fernando M.

Software is the way to go...

on a PC with a sound card.
If you have a low end PC you can run Win ME which has a built in SA.
Its under the visualizations called bars and graphs.
And there is some third party software out there as well.
