Hi to all, new to the forum, but always followed as super amount of information available. I have been running 2 Soundstream amplifiers in my private car since the 90's, namely a Soundstream Ref 404s in 4 channel mode, and a Ref 500 in bridged mode for the sub.
Unfortunately, my Ref 500 started giving up slowly, and now will not switch on at all now. My friend who is a repair technician for car and home electronics narrowed the problem down to the 2 driver boards, and 2 each of Tip 102 and Tip 107 transistors. I would like to repair it, as it has proven a beast of an amp in quality!
As I had used Jamie from jandrelectronix in the past, within an hour of me emailing him yesterday for the parts, he had listed the driver boards and I bought directly from him. Unfortunately, he is out of tip 102 and tip107's.
The tip 102 and tip 107 in my Ref 500, are Motorola type made in Mexico. The tip102 has 328 written on it, and the tip107 has 318 written on it. I have attached photos for reference. As I cannot find the same tips on eBay or elsewhere, could any forum member advise me what alternative I could use? Would I have to replace all the tips with the same type?
Have done a search, but stores mentioned are in the states which I do not have access to.
Would greatly appreciate any input.

Farnell UK has both of them in stock.
Many thanks. Will get my brother to order as he lives in UK.

Question, is it OK if they are not Motorola and another make, as I was recommended they should be the same manufacturer on the board (only 1 each need replacing)?
(Of course, my technician could always replace all with other manufacturer I suppose, for a total clean revamp.)
The brand is usually immaterial. Most transistors have as much unit-to-unit production difference as you will ever see when hopping between manufacturers.

Thanks all for input. Much appreciated.
Jamie from jandrelectronix gave me a link for Motorola tips and have ordered. Super service even for parts he does not have anymore
Ordered 12 each, so my tech can replace all if necessary. Hopefully my Ref 500 will have a new breath of life again.🙂
