Hello.
Having these commonly used small signal transistors i wonder which one sounds better when used as LTP input device or a singleton configuration at the input stage of medium power amplifiers or preamplifiers. Personally i prefer 2N5551 which i find very rich and warm in sound.BC550 seems too bright and sometimes harsh and annoying. I have never used KSC1845 though and i dont have an opinion.Whats your opinion guys?
Besides this,i would like to know your opinion about using BD139-140 vs 2SC4793-2SA1837 as output devices in output stage of preamplifiers. which one sounds better?

If the Hfe of a transistor is different to another, that is what you are hearing.
If however, the circuit employed has sufficient negative feedback, there will be no difference as long as the Hfe exceeds the device being compared with.
Mostly what you hear is a product of what you want to hear.

Yes, most likely hearing small differences in sound caused by large differences in current gain or possibly minor differences in biasing. The only other issue is noise, which does vary from one BJT to another.
