Hi there
I have a Sony SCD333ES that is currently skipping and not reading CD's very well.
The problem is, I don't know whether to get it repaired/upgraded or just buy a new one. Audiocom are offering mods on ebay for £450 - has anyone had any experience of them and whether the upgrades are worth it? Should i just send it to a normal Sony dealer for repair?
A new player would prob set me back about 1-2k and obviously i'd rather spend £450 but not sure of the benefits....
If anyone has any experience of audiocom and their upgrades i'd be grateful to hear their feedback!
Many thanks
Brian

Can't comment on Audiocom, but the 333ES is a really nice player. The VC24 chipset is outstanding, and responds quite well to proper mods. Sounds like you might have a bad laser unit. Replace it (that's a cheap fix) and then decide what mods make most sense.
I am willing to bet you need to properly clean the optical assembly (lens and mirror) and you will be happy again. It does involve disassembling the player and pickup, but if you can do it yourself, it will cost you one Q-tip.
