In the Physics lecture halls in the University I was at, they had humongous moving coil voltmeters and ammeters built into the walls on either side of the lecturers podium, so that any experiment results could be seen by all the audience. They must have been a relic from the 1940s - and were never used in my time.
Doesn't do too well on peaks, does it? But it IS an impressive looking gadget.
