Smallest, usable microphone

Hi,

Can anyone tell me what the smallest usable miniature microphone is?

I am currently looking for one that can supply half decent quality vocals under 5mm DIA..

Can anyone give any directions?

there'd be the AKG CK77, measuring 5,5mm in diameter, which comes in that set:

the mic alone is discontinued, but i own one which i do not need. :

DPA Microphones :: Products

Excellent quality microphones, DPA used to be part of Bruel&Kjaer but got spun off when B&K decided to focus on measurement only. Not cheap...

DPA, Countryman, Sennheiser and others all do minature microphones intended for hairline use in theatre.

5.5mm should not be an issue, but note that the self noise is somewhat higher then a larger diaphram.

well, the akg Mic is also intended for use as a hairline Mic in operas and similar 🙂
also, akg got a technical grammy for their mics.

Edit: you won't find a that small mic with less self noise. I guess, although I didn't measure it, that this Mic is at the bottom end, talking of the self noise. (I hope I didn't mess it up with that saying)
