Sharing speaker cable return/ground between drivers

I have 4 core speaker cables and can't alter that as they go under the floor. Consider biamping and I can go the usual route of two positive signals and 2 returns per channel; my 4 core wire .
I would like to try active 3 way. Could I use 3 of the cores for the positives to the 3 drivers and share the negative return with just the one remaining speaker cable core? Is it fairly meaty guage. The returns are obviously all commoned in a passive XO anyway, so I'm assuming this is doable if not an orthodox way of doing things!

I'm sure this was asked recently in another thread.

1 - Some amplifiers have floating outputs, not ground ref and could blow up.

2 - Even with ground referenced speaker outputs, an error could see speaker outputs crossed. Boom.

So it's not worth it unless you are very careful this time and can guarantee not changing your system in the future.
Proceed at your own risk.
(and search for the other thread).

This is not necessarily true, even if the amplifier is single-ended.

This is something I would personally avoid if possible. Personally I would not even use a common return path on a passive crossover. I.e. with a passive parallel crossover I would prefer wiring like shown above on Newvirus' drawing.
