These look incredible. What is the function of the display?

Grid bias current for the two halves of the beam pentode. It’s nominally 25mA. With some speakers the bias is stable at normal listening volume. With others it dances around with the music like a VU meter.

Sorry, what I wrote above is wrong. The meters read plate current, the nominal level of which is set by the grid bias.
