setting and placement questions...

Hi-

I don't know what alot of this stuff means, but I'm learning...

I know that subs "fill in" the lower frequencies the satellites can't play... and that for seamless intergration, the crossover dial on the sub must be set to compliment the satellite speaker's range...

So if my satellite speakers (Polk RM6005 system, 100 watts each) have an overall frequency response of 40Hz to 22Hz, with a lower 3dB limit of 45Hz and an upper 3dB limit of 19Hz, what should I set the "crossover" on my sub to? It's an Infinity PS8 (100 watts) with a frequency response of 35Hz to 150Hz, and it's crossover frequency is 50Hz - 150Hz; 24dB/Octave continuously variable.

My sub has a crossover dial that starts at 50Hz and ends at 150Hz, with a dot at round 11 O'clock that I would guess signifies the most common setting. There are no other markings on the dial, which seems strange to me- just the 50Hz dot all the way at the bottom counter-clockwise, the 150Hz dot at the bottom all the way clockwise, and the aforementioned 11 O'clock dot... where on the "clock" should I set the dial to?

Also, I'm kind of cramped for space at the front of my room where the TV, front, and center speakers are. Is placing the sub directly behind the couch beneath a console table a big no-no?

I would venture a guess that the dot signifies 100Hz.

Try setting the sub to just below the dot and setting your system speakers to small in your home theater receiver.

You haven't given a lot to go on, so the above is based on assumption. It really depends on what equipment you have and how everything is connected.
