Sealing Speakers

I'm new to this forum. I'm attempting to rebuild two old Rockustic Outdoor speakers. I purchased the necessary full range/coaxial speakers needed to place inside the Rock enclosures. My concern is what should I do to "seal & weatherproof the contact points where the front of the speaker will contact the grill. Is this best done with caulk or some form of tape or gasket?

It looks like originally there was some form of caulk at this contact surface.

Also on the bottom of the rock enclosure there is a removable (via screws) plate through which you gain access to the inside of the enclosure. This two was caulked along its edge. What should be done here? What works best?

Thanks
