Hello All:
This is my first post here and i´m also new building amplifiers.
I`ve build a pair of a SE 6l6. Both similar, but one is with a 12at7 as preamp in SRPP mode and the other uses a 12by7. Only 2 tubes for each chanel in both amplifiers.
For building them, I´ve just copy schematics here and there, read the tube data and work hard to achieve the volts and ampers to work in class A mode.
I´m happy with the results, but -obviously- I want to make some improvements.
I don´t have good speakers and I will not. I would like to build some single driver speakers using fostex o lowther but I just can´t.
I like a lot the sound, but as you can imagine, I have low output. Also, old CDs sound much lower than new ones.
I´m using the one with the 12by7 and I want to use it for some time.
The question is, what happen if I build a preamp in a separate box? I will achieve some more output? I will get more distortion?
Well, thankyou very much in advance for your atention.
