Hi all
What do you think of the following PA system?
2x Samson Auro D412 12 inch Powered speakers as mains. 250 watt RMS and 400 watt peak with a SPL of 125db.
1x Samson Auro D1800 18 inch Powered Subwoofer. 500 watt RMS and 1000 watt peak with a SPL of 125db.
And a Allen & Heath ZED16FX Analog mixer with USB. 10 mic/line inputs and 4 stereo channels.

1) forget "peak" , stick to RMS
2) **WHERE** will you use it*
3) **WHAT** will you amplify?
4) either use 2 subwoofers or none.
Can´t imagine how would you use just one in a live sound situation.

Cost! 😀
I regularly use a single active sub for smaller gigs, there is often no need for two (or the space!). The ones I use have a stereo crossover, so easy enough to link it in, though quite a few desks have a dedicated mono or sub out.
In answer to the question, it really depends on what you are doing with the PA. How big are the rooms you play and what are you putting through it? I would think you should be able to handle fully mic'd band in a pub gig to adequate levels.

Do not use two Subs, one is sufficient. Two will give holes in bass response when using it in a room. Power the sub from your Mono output on the desk.
Desk is good and the rest should give a reasonable sound. Ignore the peak levels, SPL is a good guide, bearing in mind the reading is at one metre away!

We are a full band with 2 acoustic guitars, bass guitar, electronic stage piano, electronic drum kit and a electric guitar, as well as 4 vocalists. We will problably use the PA system in normal sized school halls. Maybe 200 to 400 people? The sound engineer at the shop where I bought the Samson system told me to connect the subwoofer directly from the mixing desk and then to connect the main speakers to the hi-pass filter on the subwoofer, to send the mid and high frequencies to the mains and use the sub for the low frequencies only, like the kick drum and bass guitar. The Allen and Heath desk does have a mono out, but the subwoofer only have xlr inputs.
I have had another look at the sub, run the stereo output from the desk into the sub and then link to the tops using the high output. No need to use a separate crossover at all. The sub will sum the two signals for its own use and pass the hi pass output to the tops. Simples.
Sorry for not looking more closely before.
And for 200 people it should be fine, if you are pushing 400 then a second sub might be worthwhile.
JonSnell, that is true if they are separated. However, if you locate the subs together then they act as a single source and this avoids some of the cancellation issues.

I thought the main reason for using two subs was to make the stacks match? 😀
Thanx guys for all your input, I have tested the 2 Samson D412 speaker so far, and at first I was not happy with the bass output of the 12inch speakers, but I think I was expecting to much of a 12 inch speaker, my previous main speakers were 15 inch Leem passive 300 watt speakers and they had a lot of low bass. But I must say that the Samson Auro D412 have a very clear sound, the bass isn't bad, sound quality is very good. I do think that if I connect the sub the bass will be better.

Nah, you need four for that!
