I was given a punch 400s today and was told it had a blown channel. I hooked it up to my supply and it produces clean audio on both channels for awhile, and then the right channel has crackling and cuts in and out but resumes after preamp level is increased. The filter caps appear to be swollen, but arn't leaking. Would replacing filter and power supply caps be a place to start? Seems like rockford used some cheaper components in this amp, as the caps are "surge" brand. Amplifier doesn't get hot or go into protection mode.
You could replace the rail caps just for good measure.
Unless the power supply is defective or not up to "par" I wouldn't change the power supply caps, unless you want to use a better brand, your call.
Have you taken any measurements before and during this problem?
Do you have a scope?
