I grew up on tube amps, switched to solid state and am now scheming my return.
Back in the late 80's I found an HK Citation II for cheap. In beautiful shape with Mullard Golden Lions. I realized immediately that this was an amazing amp that I'd never let go of. After a year of ownership and non-stop heavy usage, it blew a resistor. At that time, I was moving a bunch and mostly broke so I stored it at my mom's house. Lo, later that year she found it in a closet and tossed it in the trash. I never recovered.
I've had Dynaco ST-70's and PAS pre's, Bryston, Adcom, etc. and am now looking to find a nice tube setup that can bring back the magic of that amp.
I recently bought a stock monoblock Dynaco MKIII amp that sounds promising. I might find a match to it or hold out for a Citation II project.
