Hello fellow DIY'ers,
I've recently inherited a Yamaha A-760 Stereo Amplifier, this has been in our family since new from the early 80s. I'm totally aware of the well-known incandescent bulb issue which I will aim to address once the other issue has been resolved, that being, the phono channel having very very poor sound quality.
This amplifier has very recently had the safety recall work done. Now that it has a clean bill of health from a safety perspective, I would like to carry out a full restore project on it. The most common of restore projects would include a full re-cap, this is the easy bit! What else would you guys recommend that should/could be replaced? Do any other components need replacing given this unit is over 40 years old?
Thanks in advance guys
forgot to say - apologies if I posted this in the wrong section on the forum, please let me know which section it should be for next time - Thanks

I wish there were restore/upgrade kits available for vintage stuff. Only one I found is for Kenwood By DRM. I did this and It sure does take a lot of guess work out of the equation. Can you get the service manual? If so, It would sure help for buying caps and the like.

Hi,
Yes, I have the service manual, not the greatest quality given it's age and to be honest, I'm not good at reading schematic diagrams so for the restore project, I'm replacing like-for-like. For the Phono issue, this will be the challenge......

Nice work! Thanks for the link - I'm glad I'm not the only one taking on this kind of task. I absolutely love doing this kind of work (as a project only) not qualified in the slightest.
Have a question for you though - On your Kenwood project, the photos show a cooling fan, does the fan blow cooler air onto the heatsinks or extract heat away from the heatsinks?

I can't remember... I did test the thermo switch to make sure it worked but for all these years, it's never come on!
I did refurbish a Yamaha CA-610 ii that I've had for about 30 years. Tried to follow this guy the best I could. It turned out perfect though.
