Hi,
I picked up a dead amp from a recycle scheme. It's a cheap brand sold in the UK (Acoustic Solutions) but not too bad. I thought I'd try and get it working to use in my den.
At power on nothing happens, no display, no red LED.
I'checked the fuses internal and external, and measuring the voltages I see mains AC across the torroids inputs but the 23-0-23 outputs measure hardly any AC voltage ? The Transformer looks fine, no signs of wear & tear. Can they just fail ? maybe it's a rejected unit with a bad transformer, but one of the 1/2 watt resistors on the main board looks like it's been used as there is some thermal discoloring.

With power disconnected, try measuring the primary winding(s) of the transformer. Should only be a couple of ohms.

Thanks. It appears to be open circuit, so I guess the transformer is dead.
That's a quick and bulletproof diagnose unless the transformer has a build-in thermal fuse which is highly unlikely in cheap gear. 🙂

Do Hampshire stil operate their recycling sheds at the tips?
I used to go to Aldershot or Bordon tips as they had them rather than Farnham (in Surrey) which did not.
Many bargains to be had!!!!!
