recommed an amplifier for Bryston Mini-T

Hi All,

I just acquired a pair of Bryston Mini-T speakers, and am looking for a less-than $2000 amplifier, new or used, to pair with it.

The amplifier i was using for my smaller bookshelf speakers is somewhat up to the task, but has a fuzzy/weak channel, and i'd rather replace it than repair it at this point.

The preamp i plan on using is a used Parasound PLD 1100.

I look forward to any and all amplifier suggestions!

This is diyaudio. Replacing a set of rail caps to get wattage up to spec and maybe a couple of input coupler caps to sharpen bass on a working amp should not be daunting. Can save ~$1400. Plus a Bryston amp from Denmark post #2 will require a 220 to 120 conversion transformer for $$$.
In Canada here is a Peavey CS200x good for maybe 100 w/ch 4 ohms. $199 plus $35 even to me 800 miles away. PEAVEY CS200X 2 CHANNEL POWER AMPLIFIER #1569 GOOD USED WORKING CONDITION | eBay
Post '96 models of that have a speaker disconnect relay, probably on DC detect. HD should be sub .05% as my CS-800s unless run to "full rated power" which is 1% HD clipping in Peavey spec sheets.
In the no-fan department here is a Peavey M-3000 in Canada working for $180 +shipping. These are .1% HD because of the TL074 op amp but that can be replaced with a 33079 in addition with 33 pf bypass caps around the feedback resistor to prevent oscillation. Happy shopping & maybe upgrading.

Thank you, yes I will be looking into Bryston power amps...perhaps from the SST or SST2 generation as opposed to the first generation ones.

@huggygood
Thanks for sharing! Can you comment on how the first generation Brystons sounded? I've read they can sound harsh or even grainy.

@indianajo
Nice suggestions, i hadn't considered these units before, or even knew of their existence...but have added them to my list.

@ EVERYONE

It seems that there is a chinese Bryston 4BSST clone on the scene, and a 70+ page thread where people are building them and seem to have reported success! I may end up venturing down this road. I have to go through the whole thread first to see what i'm up against first.

Catch the good sounding Peavey's while they are still listed. You could be listening to speakers in 5 days, at 1-10 watts even if you don't replace rail capacitors right away to get full wattage. Then build the Bryston clone for comparison over months. I've waded through enough Peavey schematics to know which ones should be .03% HD, which .1%, and which hiss like a boiler relief valve at low volume. Basically good category have 4560 input op amp, okay category have TL074 op amp, and hissy varieties from the seventies have a 741 input op amp labeled SC5278. Some models have an annoying fan without speed reduction when cold at living room wattage. Plus many peavey amps are for guitar, bass or keyboard, and are unsuitable for full frequency FM radio, CD, RIAA preamp or PC drive.
Crown & QSC also make some great sounding PA amps, but e-bay+craigslist has about 1/20th the number of used ones as Peavey. I don't know the details of their construction as well; schematics & owner's manuals are harder to get.
I've just got my CD player working (stolen Wall transformer 9/20) & my M-2600 Peavey hooked up to my replacement SP2(2004) speakers bought 8/21. Great sound a huge relief after listening to FM radio only in mono over a mediocre Schober organ speaker 14 months since the burglary.
