Hello,
I'm ready to install the IRF510's onto my BOZ preamp board.
I'm a bit confused though - the board has holes for only two pins and one connection for the tab. The IRF510 itself, however, has three pins in addition to the tab. The two holes on the circuit board correspond to the outside pins of the transistor and there is no hole for the middle pin.
Looking at the datasheet seems to indicate that the tab is the Gate, one of the pins is Drain, and the center and the last pin are connected to Source. Is this correct?
If so, would I just clip off the center pin and install the IRF510 into the appropriate holes?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
KT

The middle pin should be the Drain pin.
You should be able to measure a very low impedance (a short, basically) between the middle pin and the tab.
If that is so, then you can safely clip that pin.
