After over 12 years of perfect service, one speaker suddenly began popping loudly with approx 0,5 s intervals, sometimes a little faster or slower, sometimes buzzing, too.
The pop sounds a a bit like a relay klicking, too, but there isn't any relays in there afaik. It is likely the lower bass panel.
Anyway, I try to avoid opening them. If there any chance by letting the pop on for until whatever has crept in between the diaphragms burn out? I have put them on the side to hope smth moves in there and also hit them gently. No change.

Quads have an internal dust cover that typically prevents things from getting in the electrostatic panel.
Unfortunately, the likely issue is a stator panel that has come loose from its grid. That's a common failure mode on all of the Quads since the 63. If it's just one spot you may be able to repair it without rebuilding the entire panel, but this is a problem that grows over time and will likely eventually affect all the panels. So any small repair will normally just delay the problem awhile. There are rebuilding threads here and elsewhere that show the problem and the fixes.
Sheldon will likely join the thread also, but here are a couple links to his site in case you haven't run across them. The second one has some videos showing the issue I described above.

It's a long story but this speaker had a crack where bugs can creep in. I was stupid not to cover it but did now. SOme years ago there was a slight buzz in it that disappeared after a day.
It started popping suddenly when I switched on the amp. The speakers are on 24/7. Just wish it was the upper panel. Tedious to rip them apart 🙁 (have done it with 63s previously)

It's a long time ago, but I think the sounds that came from the lower bass panel of one of my ESL 63s after a cat had urinated against it included pops and hiss. It was very dependent on the weather. It turned out that there was a small hole in the dust cover, which probably explains how the urine reached the panel.
Most of them are, some are not. Out of the nine cats I shared my life with, only one urinated against an ESL 63 and only one other used it as climbing material and tipped it over when he jumped off.
Probably have a hole on the stator. Charge can accumulate in an area and eventually eat a hole. If you can remove enlugh to look thoroughly at the suspect panel, you'll probably see something - and maybe more holes in the making. Will have to remove the panel and get it rebuilt.
Just found out that one of the well-known ESL resources in Sweden (now inactive I think) has moved to my home town...what luck if this is true. To convince him to help me is step 2.
Chances are very strong that the glue holding the stators to the plastic support structure is bad. It's most likely bad in all your panels, but one HAS to be the worst and you found it. Good luck with the repair, if I can help, let me know, I can help describe how to disassemble the speaker and get inside if you are handy.
