Has anybody ever tried it? I was thinking I could carve out a couple of big pumpkins and mount a pair of Fostex FF85 (or whatever other drivers I have) on them and put a port hole at the bottom. Just for Halloween of course. I'd use them to play the Halloween sound effects.
Bad idea. Pumpkins are soft and slimy. More fun to blow them up. 🙂Has anybody ever tried it?

You may want to use something that's outdoor rated because of the moisture in the pumpkin. Or use a speaker you don't care much about in case it goes south.
I have only hid the speakers behind the jack-o-lantern to emulate him making the scary voices. And yes, make sure they are intended for outdoor use.I'd use them to play the Halloween sound effects.
I run a CD called 98 Scary Sounds on a repeat loop. I have others but that one is my go to.

Ok, now I have to try it. I'll go buy some big ones if I can find them. Whole Foods had lots last week. I have a few pairs of full range drivers, some from Rat Shack and I think a pair of Fostex 126 that aren't being used. The FF85s come out of my Lance speakers that I use so maybe I won't cannibalize those. I also have a subwoofer that I don't use that I can set up to give it some oomph. I have 100 feet of color LEDs strips that'll light to the sounds.
This is beginning to sound like a project.
And I'll post a video.

Ultimately I decided not to do this. I'll use my Lance speakers. It just sounded like too much trouble and was still unsure it would actually work well. I had my Lance speakers (FF85WK) playing sound effects today on the porch for the kiddie costume parade on my block and was surprised at how much sound they produced for such small speakers. And being small they aren't obvious to anybody.
