Just found out what a 9610 in the netherlands (where I live) costs E4.97 (at DIL) and with the current conversion rate to the dollar it's the same amount in the US. Then I checked digikey $0.82
Only 6x less (!!!!!!!!!!!). When I'm shipping 50x 9610 with fedex (=expensive) it's even cheaper then buying them over here.

Hold yer horses.
I'd say it all depends what the manufacturer is and where you buy them of course:
Reichelt (http://www.reichelt.de/): EUR 0.50 (Unspecified but cheap?)
Schuro (http://www.schuro.de/): EUR 1.02 (seems to be IR and cheap)
Why buy from the US at USD 0.82 when you get it in Germany for EUR 1.02 and if not concerned about Harris or others at EUR 0.50?

Display Elektronika sells IRF9610 for EUR 2,60 in the Netherlands.
Check their website for the nearest store. Or look in the Elektuur
magazine.
It is not that cheap, but they are original IRF and when you order
let us say 12, you will get them from the same batch/lot.
Hope this helps
